Laminar flat plate

Problem Description

This validation case involves the flow past a flat plate at zero angle of incidence. The Mach number of the flow is Ma 0.5, the Reynolds number is Re = 10 000. A laminar boundary layer develops on the plate and thickens along the plate.

Results

For this test case analytical data from the solution of the Navier–Stokes equations is available, the Blasius solution. Three different structured quadrangle grids with a resolution from 5 000 cells up to 45 000 cells were used.

Velocity
Skin friction coefficient

The normalized velocity profile of the mesh independent solution solution shows a very good agreement compared with the analytical data.
